New Releases Dec. 7-16 and TRUE Reader’s Choice

Talk about feast or famine—sheesh! Last week’s Reader’s Choice was a feast…this week…well, not so much. So just because it’s the season of giving, if nothing on this paltry little list strikes your fancy, this week we’ll have a true Reader’s Choice—any book you want, new or old. I only ask that it be less than US$15 or thereabouts so I can still buy my elderly mother some socks for Christmas J Heh.

As always, Reader’s Choice is an international giveaway, so dig in…and tell me what YOU want to read!

*Genre key (at the end of each listing): SF=science fiction; F=high/epic fantasy; UF=urban fantasy; H=horror; PNR=paranormal romance; YA=young adult; MG=middle grade; alt history=alternative history; dyst=dystopia; steampunk.

Shattered Souls, by Mary Lindsey(Dec. 8, Philomel)

Lenzi hears voices and has visions – gravestones, floods, a boy with steel gray eyes. Her boyfriend, Zak, can’t help, and everything keeps getting louder and more intense. Then Lenzi meets Alden, the boy from her dreams, who reveals that she’s a reincarnated Speaker – someone who can talk to and help lost souls – and that he has been her Protector for centuries. Now Lenzi must choose between her life with Zak and the life she is destined to lead with Alden. But time is running out: a malevolent spirit is out to destroy Lenzi, and he will kill her if she doesn’t make a decision soon. UF-YA

Artemis, by Philip Palmer(Dec. 12, Orbit)

Artemis McIvor is a thief, a con-artist, and a stone cold killer. And she’s been on a crime-spree for, well, for years. The galactic government has collapsed and the universe was hers for the taking. But when the cops finally catch up with her, they give Artemis a choice. Suffer in prison for the rest of her very long life, or join a crew of criminals, murderers, and traitors on a desperate mission to save humanity against an all-consuming threat. Now, Artemis has to figure out how to be a good guy without forgetting who she really is. SF

The Girl with the Granite Heart, by A.J. Menden (Dec. 15, DP)

Known as Granite, Selena Curtis is practically impervious to attack. If only her heart was, too. A member of the Elite Hands of Justice, the world’s premier superhero squad, her time as the group’s newbie is over. She’s about to betray them. Jack Campbell is back. Despite the rumors, the piratical-looking supervillain is potent as ever, and he’s Selena’s only chance at stopping someone even more deadly: the Dragon. Jack can steal a person’s very mind and body, like he once stole Selena’s love. But that has nothing to do with today. Lainey, Paul, Mindy—none of her friends at the EHJ can know the truth. When saving the world, never show a weakness. Better yet, never have one. PNR

  2. Suzanne, I want to read YOUR book! Ok, something that’s out — Shattered Souls does look fabulous but I’ve had my eye on MIND THE GAP by Christopher Golden and Tim Lebbon ever since you featured MAP OF MOMENTS, so MIND would be my Reader’s Choice.

  21. LOL! After the feast, a famine indeed! Nothing really piques my interest but I found this book at The Book Depository that I would love to have instead:
Shield of Fire by Boone Brux (ISBN: 9781937044336). Anyone read it yet? Sure looks good!

My sis always teases my nephew that he will get nothing but socks & undies for Xmas if he’s naughty!

  22. Sadly, the releases this week don’t pique my interest.
Happily I have an OMGSOLONG TBR List of books I need to acquire and read… 🙂
If I happen to win, I’ve had Carolyn Crane’s Mind Games on my list for a long, long time, so I’d love to receive it.
As always, thanks for the fabulous giveaway chances!
