Marsha A. Moore unlocking ancient scribal power in Staurolite (& W*n Staurolite)

First, a quick note. Today’s a new episode release day for Storm Force, and I hope you’ll hop over to Happy Tails and Tales and say hello to Maghon. A lot of the latter part of the book is set in Maghon’s neck of the woods in Louisiana! Also, thanks to My Guilty Obession for spotlighting Storm Force today.

Today, author Marsha A. Moore is here to talk about her most recent release, Staurolite, the fourth book in her Enchanted Bookstore Legends series. Marsha is an author of fantasy romance. Much of her life feeds the creative flow she uses to weave highly imaginative tales. The magic of art and nature often spark life into her writing, as well as watercolor painting and drawing. After a move from Toledo to Tampa in 2008, she’s happily transformed into a Floridian, in love with the outdoors. She’s been a yoga enthusiast for over a decade and is excited to be taking part in a Kripalu yoga teacher training program during 2013. That spiritual quest helps her explore the mystical side of fantasy.  You can learn more about Marsha and her books at her website, on facebook or on twitter.

ABOUT STAUROLITE:  Lyra McCauley, current Scribe of the Alliance, is the only one who can decode magic hidden in the recently retrieved ancient texts written by her ancestors, the first four Scribes. Information in those writings can help Lyra locate the four missing keystones, which will restore power to the Alliance and allow overthrow of the Dark Realm. With peace restored, she and her beloved, Cullen, could finally marry. Time is short with the Black Dragon’s Dark Realm increasing attacks to avenge the death of his heir. Many innocent lives are lost. Alliance residents are forced into hiding. Magicals and blue dragons follow leadership of the Imperial Dragon and the other three Guardians into battle to defend the Alliance. While Lyra unlocks the ancient magic, she opens herself up to scribal powers from her ancestors. She alone can fight the deadliest of the Dark Realm’s forces, the cimafa stealth dragons, but at a cost. The energy flux threatens her health and ability to learn where to find the missing keystones. Can Lyra overcome this shrewd tactic of the Black Dragon to decimate the Alliance?
Now, let’s hear from Marsha…
Unlocking ancient scribal power in Staurolite: Enchanted Bookstore Legend Four
by Marsha A. Moore
1. In Staurolite, the heroine, Lyra McCauley, current Scribe of the Alliance, is the only one who can decode magic hidden in the recently retrieved ancient texts written by her ancestors, the first four Scribes. What information is Lyra looking to find in those ancient books? Why is she the only one who can do this job?
Legend indicates the collection of all five ancient books will provide magical information that can allow the good Alliance to become more powerful than the opposing Dark Realm. The Alliance is under increasing attacks from the Dark Realm. The Dark Realm’s attacks have stepped up and innocent people are being killed. Initially, Lyra doesn’t know what she might find in those newly acquired lost books. She barely gets back from recovering them and must begin her next task of decoding.
Lyra begins looking for similarities, repeating threads, among the ancient texts. She discovers that each Scribe before her was responsible for finding or interacting with one of the four keystones of a device that channels external magical power from nature to the Alliance. All four of those gems were lost centuries ago. The leader of the Dark Realm, the Black Dragon, has vowed to kill and destroy all in the Alliance. That device to help the Alliance gain much needed power must be restored, beginning with locating the lost keystones.
Lyra is the only one who can do this task because she is the only person in the Alliance to possess the power of quintessence, the fifth element of nature. The aura of very other magical being in Dragonspeir, human or animal, is guided by one of the other elements of nature I mentioned above. The power of quintessence is the master of the other four, which makes Lyra uniquely strong.
2. How can the missing keystones help the Alliance overthrow the Dark Realm?
The four keystones originally were parts of a device called the Elementum Arcesso. This device permits the Alliance to collect power from the elements of nature: air, earth, fire, water. It has been centuries since the device was operable. Using that device, the Alliance could once again become stronger than the Dark Realm.
3. Time is short with the Black Dragon’s Dark Realm increasing attacks to avenge the death of his heir. How was the heir killed? Is the Alliance responsible for this death?
The heir was killed by Lyra when she fought the Dark Realm to reclaim her beloved’s aura. Dark Realm members mistakenly stole Cullen’s aura when attempting to take hers. Without an aura, Cullen was left in a coma, facing certain death. Putting the aura of a high magical like Cullen, the Imperial Sorcerer of the Alliance, to good use, the Black Dragon implanted it into the mind of his son to strengthen the young dragon’s powers. When Lyra extracted Cullen’s aura, the death of the heir was an inevitable consequence.
4. While Lyra unlocks the ancient magic, she opens herself up to scribal powers from her ancestors. She alone can fight the deadliest of the Dark Realm’s forces—the cimafa stealth dragons—but at a cost. The energy flux threatens her health and ability to learn where to find the missing keystones. What are the symptoms Lyra suffers with when she uses this ancient scribal power from her ancestors?
When Lyra reads the ancient texts, she opens herself to the powers of her ancestors. Those powers become hers. Together, that gives her aura the element of quintessence, which is stronger than those guided by air, earth, fire, or water. No one else possesses quintessence, but many seek to steal her aura. With that power, Lyra can overtake the fiercest creatures of the Dark Realm but suffers kickbacks of seizures. Physically, her body has difficulty wielding the intense power. Learning to work with that limitation puts another obstacle in Lyra’s path as she races to find ways to save the Alliance from the attacking Dark Realm.

Thanks, Suzanne, for asking me to be here today and share about Lyra’s adventures in Staurolite!

Thanks, Marsha!
