Haven: the Tranquilli Bloodline Vampires with Celia Breslin (and w*n a book)

First, if you have a chance, check out my ramblings around the web today. I’ve put the links up on my author website…and I’m giving away the UK edition of ELYSIAN FIELDS. I still haven’t SEEN the US versions but they’ll be coming soon!

Now, please help me welcome author Celia Breslin to Preternatura. Celia is visiting us today as part of her virtual book tour to talk about her recent release, Haven: The Tranquilli Bloodline, which was released on July 2 by Champagne Books. She’s also terrifically organized and is a member of the Paranormal Unbound blog with me and a host of faboo authors. The Para-Un blog is always listed to the right with its latest update, so check it out!

Celia lives in California with her husband, daughter, and two feisty cats. She writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance, and has a particular fondness for vampires and the Fae. When not writing, you’ll find her exercising, reading a good book or indulging her addiction to Joss Whedon’s TV shows and movies. You can learn more about Celia by visiting her website, her blog, on Twitter, or on Facebook.
ABOUT HAVEN (The Tranqulli Bloodline #1): San Francisco nightclub owner Carina Tranquilli works hard, plays hard, and never allows the death of her parents and her twelve-year memory gap to get her down. But her life takes a left turn when a witch attacks her on her twenty-fifth birthday. Three hauntingly familiar vampires emerge to reveal she possesses a latent power. To protect her from their enemies, they admit to wiping her memories clean and abandoning her as a child, but now they need her help. As she struggles to evade her new protectors and even newer enemies, she meets Alexander, an enigmatic, undead musician. Insta-lust flares, leaving her wanting more. With evil’s minions hounding her every move, and everything she thought she knew turned on its head, Carina must harness her burgeoning power, unravel her vampire family’s web of deceit, and fight to have a love life…without getting killed in the process.
And now, let’s hear from Celia…
Hi Everyone!
I’m delighted to be here today on Preternatura! Thank you, Suzanne, for inviting me over to chat about my vampires.
The Basics:
My vampires are undead, sensitive to sun and silver, can only survive on human blood, and possess a basic set of vamp-y skills including heightened senses and super strength. They can glamour and compel weak-minded humans and vampires but cannot glamour or compel werewolves.
The Hierarchy:
The governing tribunal for all vampire-kind originates in and operates from Italy. Vampires worldwide organize themselves in gangs and refer to themselves as cosca, Italian for “gang” or “clan.” Each cosca has a leader – capo or capa – with a right and left hand (aka second and third in command), followed by soldiers (fourth, fifth, etc.). The Tranquilli cosca is the most powerful of them all, first in line and answerable only to the tribunal.
Age Equals Power:
Vampires under one hundred are weaker than their older counterparts. The ancients can hurt/kill/torture with power alone, though they do love to get physical. Elder vamps can communicate telepathically with members within their own cosca and can also mind chat with other older vamps regardless of cosca affiliation. Some of the older ones can also fly and often possess a unique skill not necessarily associated with vampirism. As one of them puts it, “Gifted in life. Gifted in death.”
In the Name of Love:
Whether they sport the label Good or Evil in the Haven universe, my vampires are passionate, fiercely protective, possessive and loyal. Just how far will these creatures go to protect the ones they love? As you’ll see from the book description, Carina’s vampire family went pretty darn far…
Thanks, Celia!

  1. Haven sounds very good. It would be nice to win, but even if I don’t, I will be getting it.

    • Hi Liz,
Glad to hear you enjoyed my vampires, yay! A short prequel (set three months prior to Haven) releases this October. It’s all about Jonas. No date set yet for book 2.

    • Hi Galena,
Shifters of all kinds exist in the Bloodline world, though none (wolves included) show up in the first book. Alexander has some history with one particular pack and it will shake things up further down the series road… 🙂

  2. Interesting and i’m happy to get the info about the universe like that at least we know where we are going^^

How many books will teh series count?

    • Hi Miki,
I have five planned in the series, with shorts popping up when other characters decide they want more screen time. Jonas (vampire), for example, demanded a prequel short. His story releases this October.
