New Releases November 16—November 22 and Readers Choice C*ntest

Another light week for new releases.  Think of it as our “pre-Thanksgiving” diet.  And while the number of new releases may be small this week, there are several interesting titles from which to choose.

If you have a chance today, hop on over to the Lady Scribes blog, where I’m talking about spring cleaning (even though it’s fall) and showing photos of my work spaces. And there’s a giveaway, of course!

What do you want to read this week? As always, leave a comment telling me the book you’d most like to win, and maybe will make your wishes come true. Your choice of print or digital unless otherwise stated. International? Of course! As long as Book Depository delivers to your country, please enter. If you’d prefer the first book in a series listed here, that’s okay, too.
Accidentally Married to…A Vampire (Accidentally Yours #2), by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff, (November 19, Forever)
After a three-century “time out,” legendary vampire Niccolo DiConti vows to fulfill an ancient prophecy and defeat the demented queen of the damned. All he has to do is find his human mate, seduce her into agreeing to become a vampire, and bond her to him forever. Luckily, he’s handsome, charming, and mind-blowing in bed. On vacation in sultry Mexico, biologist Helena Strauss makes the discovery of a lifetime when she meets Niccolo, and finds herself caught in a world of supernatural secrets and dangerous delights. Even more shocking is that he seems to know everything about her and claims her as his true immortal companion. She can’t take her eyes off this gorgeous, perfect being. But can a hot-blooded gal like her really settle down with a cold-hearted vampire? (paperback release. released as ebook, March 2013)
Bloodstone(Rebel Angels #2), by Gillian Philip, (November 19, Tor)
For centuries, Sithe warriors Seth and Conal MacGregor have hunted for the Bloodstone demanded by their Queen. Homesick, and determined to protect their clan, they have also made secret forays across the Veil. One of these crossings has violent consequences that will devastate both their family, and their entire clan. In the Otherworld, Jed Cameron, a feral, full-mortal young thief, becomes entangled with the strange and dangerous Finn MacAngus and her shadowy uncles. When he is dragged into the world of the Sithe, it’s nothing he can’t handle until time warps around him, and menacing forces reach out to threaten his infant brother. In the collision of two worlds, war and tragedy are inevitable, especially when treachery comes from the most shocking of quarters.  (U.S. Release)
Horizon(The Soul Seekers #4), by Alyson Noel, (November 19, St. Martin’s Griffin)
Daire Santos is the last of the Soul Seekers, and the only thing standing between the Richters and the destruction of everyone she loves. With her grandmother gone and Cade back in Enchantment, Daire must finally step into her destiny and lead the fight against the Richters. But what if that means sacrificing the person she loves most? Bound to the Richters by blood, Dace struggles against the darkness growing inside him that threatens to claim Daire too. Though Daire refuses to give up on him, the choice may not be hers. An epic battle is on the horizon and the end of the world looms near. With such insurmountable odds stacked against them, is their love really enough to conquer all?
Romulus Buckle & the Engines of War (Chronicles of the Pneumatic Zeppelin #2), by Richard Ellis Preston, Jr., (November 19, 47North)
The frozen wasteland of Snow World is home to warring steampunk clans. Crankshafts, Imperials, Tinskins, Brineboilers, and many more all battle one another for precious supplies, against ravenous mutant beasts for basic survival, and with the mysterious Founders for their very freedom. Through this ruined world soars the Pneumatic Zeppelin, captained by the daring Romulus Buckle. Founders raids threaten to shatter the fragile alliance Buckle has risked everything to forge among the clans. Buckle learns that the most mysterious clan of all is holding his long-lost sister in a secret base, and that she holds the ultimate key to victory over the Founders. Rescuing her means abandoning his allies and praying they survive long enough for there to be an alliance to return to.
The Curse Keepers, by Denise Grover Swank, (November 19, 47North)
Ellie Lancaster has lived her life by the site of the Lost Colony of Roanoke, the settlement that vanished without a trace around 1590. Only the descendants of the two men who banished the spirits of an enemy tribe from the material realm know what really happened to the colony. Ellie is one of those descendants, a Curse Keeper. Her father taught her what he knew of the curse, including that if the two Curse Keepers ever meet, the curse will be lifted and the raging Native American spirits will be unleashed. Ellie has always taken the legend for a fairy tale. Until she meets Collin Dailey and realizes everything she was told is true. Ellie and Collin must battle supernatural forces and their loathing, and passion, for each other to set things right.
The Fiery Heart (Bloodlines #4), by Richelle Mead, (November 19, Razorbill)
The struggle isn’t over for Sydney. As she navigates the aftermath of her life-changing decision, she still finds herself pulled in too many directions at once. Her sister Zoe has arrived, and while Sydney longs to grow closer to her, there’s still so much she must keep secret. Working with Marcus has changed the way she views the Alchemists, and Sydney must tread a careful path as she harnesses her profound magical ability to undermine the way of life she was raised to defend. Consumed by passion and vengeance, Sydney struggles to keep her secret life under wraps as the threat of exposure, and re-education, looms larger than ever.
The Severed Tower (Conquered Earth #2), by J. Barton Mitchell, (November 19, St. Martin’s Griffin)
Holt, Mira, and Max have fled Midnight City with Zoey after watching her repel an entire Assembly army. Zoey’s powers are unlocked, but who and what she is remains a mystery. All she knows is that she must reach the Severed Tower. The Strange Lands, a place where the laws of physics have completely broken down. The Assembly has pursued Zoey into the Strange Lands. The group hunting Holt are here, led by a dangerous and beautiful pirate named Ravan. So is Mira’s first love, Benjamin Aubertine. There’s the Strange Lands themselves. They have inexplicably begun to grow, spreading outwards, becoming more powerful. Somehow, it all seems tied to Zoey herself, and the closer she gets to the Tower, the weaker she becomes.
Watcher of the Dark (Jeremiah Hunt #3), by Joseph Nassise, (November 19, Tor)
New Orleans was nearly the death of Jeremiah Hunt, between a too-close brush with the FBI and a chilling, soul-searing journey through the realm of the dead that culminated with a do-or-die confrontation with Death himself. When he performs an arcane ritual to reclaim the soul of the magically gifted, woman who once saved him, he must flee the law once again. In L.A., he has to contend with Carlos Fuentes, who sees in Hunt a means to obtain the mystical key that would open the gates of Hell. When his friends are threatened by the supernatural predator known as the Preacher, Hunt knows that all his newfound experience and ability will go for naught unless he can keep the Preacher and Fuentes at bay long enough for him to find a way to free his friends from mortal peril.
Wild Fell, by Michael Rowe, (November 19, ChiZine)
The crumbling summerhouse called Wild Fell, soaring above the desolate shores of Blackmore Island, has weathered the violence of the seasons for more than a century. Built for his family by a 19th-century politician of impeccable rectitude, the house has kept its terrible secrets and its darkness sealed within its walls. For a hundred years, the townspeople of Alvina have prayed that the darkness inside Wild Fell would stay there. Jameson Browning, a man well acquainted with suffering, has purchased Wild Fell with the intention of beginning a new life, of letting in the light. But what waits for him at the house is devoted to its darkness and guards it jealously. It has been waiting for Jameson his whole life, or even longer. And now, at long last, it has found him.
World After (Penryn & the End of Days #2), by Susan Ee, (November 19, Skyscape)
The survivors of the angel apocalypse begin to scrape back together what’s left of the modern world. When a group of people capture Penryn’s sister Paige, thinking she’s a monster, the situation ends in a massacre. Paige disappears. Humans are terrified. Mom is heartbroken. Penryn drives through the streets of San Francisco looking for Paige. Why are the streets so empty? Where is everybody? Her search leads her into the heart of the angels’ secret plans, where she catches a glimpse of their motivations, and learns the horrifying extent to which the angels are willing to go. Raffe hunts for his wings. Without them, he can’t rejoin the angels, can’t take his rightful place as one of their leaders. When faced with recapturing his wings or helping Penryn survive, which will he choose?
