Q and A with Celia Breslin and Win a Book

First off, my Sentinels tour continues today at Book Bliss. There’s a spotlight where you can enter the tour giveaways as well as a review of Elysian Fields (thank you! woohoo!). There was also a fun interview that I can’t seem to find on the site. If I do find it, I’ll update the links and add a giveaway. (If you find it, let me know!)

Please join me in welcoming fellow Paranormal Unbound author Celia Breslin to Preternatura today. Celia’s most recent book is Haven, which was published in July 2013 by Champagne Books. Haven is the first book in Celia’s The Tranquilli Bloodline Series, and she is just now completing book two in this series.

Celia lives in California with her husband, daughter, and two feisty cats. She writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance, and has a particular fondness for vampires and the Fae. When not writing, you’ll find her exercising, reading a good book or indulging her addiction to Joss Whedon’s TV shows and movies. You can learn more about Celia by visiting her website, on Facebook and by following her on Twitter.

ABOUT HAVEN: San Francisco nightclub owner Carina Tranquilli works hard, plays hard, and never allows the death of her parents and her twelve-year memory gap to get her down. But her life takes a left turn when a witch attacks her on her twenty-fifth birthday. Three hauntingly familiar vampires emerge to reveal she possesses a latent power. To protect her from their enemies, they admit to wiping her memories clean and abandoning her as a child, but now they need her help. As she struggles to evade her new protectors and even newer enemies, she meets Alexander, an enigmatic, undead musician. Insta-lust flares, leaving her wanting more. With evil’s minions hounding her every move, and everything she thought she knew turned on its axis, Carina must harness her burgeoning power, unravel her vampire family’s web of deceit, and fight to have a love life… without getting killed in the process.

And now, let’s hear from Celia…

Hi Suzanne!

Thanks for having me back for another visit to Preternatura. I love hanging out here. 🙂

Give us the “elevator pitch” for your latest work?
I’m finishing up edits on the second book in the Tranquilli Bloodline series. Here’s the quickie pitch:
When her archenemy resurfaces and abducts two of her best friends, San Francisco club owner Carina Tranquilli has nine days to comply with the evil bastard’s demands or her friends die. Can she save them before time runs out?

Describe your favorite scene in the book? Why is it your favorite?
Oh man, I have so many in this book. The first one would be when Carina’s archenemy shows up to blackmail her. He jumps her while she’s on an evening jog, flies her into a huge tree and torments the heck out of her. I love this scene because her nemesis is so much fun to write. He’s funny even while he’s completely horrible. I also like the location: it’s in the Panhandle, a long strip of park in my hometown of San Francisco. Some of the trees are indeed large enough to accommodate the action I wrote in this scene.

Angel Kin, by Tricia Skinner. I was fortunate to beta read this urban fantasy goodness, and am looking forward to reading the published version now.

Your five favorite authors:
Well, Suzanne, I have more than five in various genres. Here are my current favorite writers of paranormal romance: J. R. Ward, Kresley Cole, Laura Kaye, Amber Belldene, Karen Marie Moning.

Book other than your own for which you’re an evangelist:
I’m a big fan of Amber Belldene’s Blood Vine series with its sexy and sensitive and smart vampires. And Laura Kaye’s Hearts of Anemoi series with its tortured, badass gods.

I love both of those series, too! I was sad to see Laura release the last of her Anemoi books last month!

Book that changed your life:
The Shining. No joke. Read it when I was a kid. His writing style spoke to me and influenced the direction my early writing took. I wrote many a horror short story back in the day.

No judgment here; my answer to that is The Stand!

Book you most want to read again for the first time:
The Shining. 🙂

Most horrifying moment while reading a book:
When I reach “The End” in the last book of a series I love and realize, “This is it. There are no more.” Oh, the agony… 🙂

What’s next?
Well, more vampire mayhem in the Tranquilli Bloodline series, of course. Plus, the third book in my as yet unpublished Fae warrior series. Oh, and werewolves, too–sexy shifters.

You may purchase a copy of Haven by clicking on the link below:
Haven (Tranquilli Bloodline) (Volume 1)

Thanks, Celia, it was great having you drop by today! As an added bonus, Celia is graciously giving away three ebook copies of Vampire Code. Vampire Code is a short story prequel to Haven. In order to be entered for your chance to win, you must leave a comment! Share your own favorite series with us–any genre! I guess my all-time favorite is still Jim Butcher’s Dresden files, although Kim Harrison’s Hollows series and JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood run a close second. How about you?

  1. Good morning! Thanks again, Suzanne, for having me over for a visit today. I can’t wait to see more series reading recommendations. Here’s one from me, in contemporary/military romance: Laura Kaye’s Hard Ink Series. 🙂

  2. I started reading Urban Fantasy with Kim Harrison’s Hollow’s series, and it will always be special for me. A Witch, a Pixy, and a Vampire walk into a bar… Next favorite series is Suzanne’s Sentinels of New Orleans series. And as Susannah Sandlin her Penton Legacy series. Next would be Faith Hunter’s Jane Yellowrock series.

    • Hi Roger, I haven’t yet read Suzanne’s Sentinels but they’re on the top of my enormous TBR pile. Wish there were more hours in a day to read, write, read, and write…and read some more. 🙂

  3. I have this series on my wishlist! 🙂 I have so many fave series but I guess JD Robb’s In Death series is one of my top faves. 🙂
