Q&A With Juliette Cross and #Giveaway

Please join me in extending a warm, Preternatura welcome to author Juliette Cross. Juliette is dropping by today as part of her release day blitz celebrating the release of her latest book, Windburn. Windburn is being published today, February 3rd, by Kensington/Lyrical Press and is the second book in Juliette’s Nightwing series.

Juliette calls lush, moss-laden Louisiana home where the landscape curls into her imagination, creating mystical settings for her stories. She has a B.A. in creative writing from Louisiana State University, a M.Ed. in gifted education, and was privileged to study under the award-winning author Ernest J. Gaines in grad school. Her love of mythology, legends, and art serve as constant inspiration for her works. From the moment she read Jane Eyre as a teenager, she fell in love with the Gothic romance–brooding characters, mysterious settings, persevering heroines, and dark, sexy heroes. Even then, she not only longed to read more novels set in Gothic worlds, she wanted to create her own. You can learn more about Juliette by visiting her website, on Facebook and by following her on Twitter.

crossABOUT WINDBURN: In the Gladium Province, the boundaries between humans and Morgons, the dragon-hybrid race, continue to blur as a new generation surrenders to long-forbidden temptation… Sorcha Linden does whatever she wants whenever she wants, and no one can stop her. Least of all a man. After all, they’re good for only one thing—warming her bed. But then she meets Lorian Nightwing, brother of Lucius. Seductive and iron-willed, he is determined to melt her emotional defenses—and warm her rebellious heart. The beast within Lorian longs to cage Sorcha and mark her as his own. Forever. Yet the man within also longs to protect her. When a stalker starts leaving Sorcha suggestive gifts with cryptic messages bearing an ancient blood cult symbol, Lorian’s dragon side takes over. With her life at stake, Sorcha can no longer deny the love they share. But when evil tracks her into the night, will she be too late to claim it?

Q & A
With Juliette Cross

Give us the “elevator pitch” for your latest work?
A confident woman uses sex as a weapon, barring all men from capturing her heart. But a dominant Morgon man, a dragon hybrid, breaks through her defenses to show her the beautiful sensuality of a love-bond that goes soul-deep.

What is your favorite scene in the book?
The bedroom scene when Sorcha is desperately trying to prevent Lorian from finding his way into her heart—when in truth, he already has.

Favorite book when you were a child:JCross Author Pic
Rumplestiltskin. I had the little 45 record and would play it over and over while I read along in my book. (Boy, that might be aging me a bit as many may not know what a “45” is.) I’ve always loved the dark fairytale, even as a child.

Book you’ve faked reading:
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. Never could get through it in high school, and I actually love a good deal of classic fiction. Jane Eyre is my favorite book of all time.

Book that changed your life:
The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, read it when I was 16. It opened my eyes in many ways.

Book you most want to read again for the first time:
Son of Shadows by Juliet Marillier. Marillier creates the most realistic and beautiful fantasy worlds with strong heroines and brooding, haunted heroes. I adore this book and reread it from time to time.

Most horrifying moment while reading a book:
Halloween Night, the “church” scene in Karen Marie Moning’s Darkfever. Like a horrific train wreck, I couldn’t look away or stop reading.

Favorite book about books or writing:
Stephen King’s On Writing

What’s next?
My next release will be book two in my demon hunter series, SEALED IN SIN, coming out in April. But the next release in the Morgon world will be WAKING THE DRAGON this June. It’s the debut of a spin-off from the Nightwing series, beginning five years later when tension rises between the races. The bodies of three human women are discovered in Morgon territory—with the DNA of several Morgon men on the victims. For ambitious reporter Moira Cade, it’s more than just a story, and it may mean risking her own life. Descending into the dark underworld of Morgon society, Moira is paired with Kol Moonring, Captain of the Morgon Guard, for her protection.

Thank you so much for having me on today. It was a pleasure.

  1. dragon hybrid i like the idea^^ i will have to discover more about the Morgon universe.

Do you plan to have the nightwind novel regrouped in a print omnibus one day?

  2. Thank you, Miki. It’s funny you ask that question because I was always hoping they’d be bound in one book together. I haven’t yet approached my publisher on the idea. I suppose it will depend on sales and all that. We’ll see. Crossing my fingers.

Thank you for having me on the blog today. Loved this interview. 🙂

  3. Congrats on the new release! The Nightwing series sounds fascinating. I love dragon books and have added this series to my TBR list.
