Hola, Sunday! Sounds like most of you were having fun yesterday. Well, except, Liz and Linda, who had loooong work days. I wrote for about six hours on top of the weekly chores, which was a typical Saturday for me.
First, though, a little snippet. Well, actually, it is the whole, extremely short first chapter of the novella that will be in the Sept. 29 anthology called DARK SECRETS. My story has undergone several incarnations but has finally been written—I’m doing cleanup work on it now—and is called THE CONSORT. It’s set in the Sentinels world but the only Sentinels characters who appear are the princes of Faerie, Florian and Christof, and the queen Sabine.
Liandra, daughter of Caerne the Ironworker, had prepared well to meet the Queen of Faeire.
For two days, since the summons to the Royal Palace had arrived, she’d practiced her curtsy, her manner of sipping tea, and of crossing and uncrossing her ankles, should she be allowed to sit. She’d refined her diction by talking to herself in the mirror, trying to sound more educated and of higher station than she was.
She’d been in the throne room less than a minute before she realized how utterly wrong she’d been. She wasn’t prepared at all.
After all, how does one prepare oneself for the news that one has been traded for a horse with a damaged gait?
Poor kid. She’s got some rough times ahead. Because, as I’ve often said, “Faeries are crazy.”
Now, how about some winners from the past week? If you see your name, please contact me at email@example.com or via the contact tab at the top of the page. You can choose one of my books if you like (Royal Street, River Road, Elysian Fields, Redemption, Absolution, Omega, Allegiance, Storm Force, Lovely Dark & Deep, Deadly Calm & Cold)—only Pirate’s Alley is unavailable.
Or pick a TBR book! Of the Sci Fi, Fantasy, YA, urban fantasy, PNR genres, give me two favorites, and one of those has to be SF, Fantasy, or YA because those are the genres I have the most of. Especially YA, where I have TONS.

For today’s giveaway, what are your Sunday plans? I will be (surprise) working, as Sunday is my big writing day of the week. I also have the pleasure of hauling a week’s worth of trash and recycling down a steep hill to the curb, which usually takes three or four trips, as we only have one weekly pickup and it’s on Monday.
