#AADATL2015: Chicken Fried Chicken and Inappropriate Card Games

Happy (late) Wednesday night from Atlanta! AAD officially got underway today as we had our opening reception. A lucky person chosen at random got a cool gift box from Sweet Olive Soap Works in New Orleans and a signed copy of Royal Street. Hope she enjoys them!

The plan after the reception was to get a bunch of people together and have dinner at the hotel to accommodate my wonky right foot. Sigh. Remind me to tell you THAT story sometime. Anyway, there was an hour-plus wait, so the Sheraton concierge came through big-time and fixed us up with Omar the limo driver, who took us on an entertaining ride through downtown to Mary Mac’s Tea Room. Despite its prissy name, it’s very much down-home Southern fare. A great fun dinner with our own Liz, who is a faithful blog reader–it was so great to meet her in person! Joining us were authors Cathy Clamp, Mina Khan, and Caryn Moya Block, and Caryn’s husband. There also was a reader with us whose name I don’t remember–sorry! Maybe someone can remind me tomorrow. You can see a photo of Cathy and Mina and (in the middle) reader here.

Then it was back to the hotel for a rousing game of Cards Against Humanity, which is so utterly politically incorrect that it’s hilarious. I don’t remember when I last laughed so hard.

A few stray photos:

More to come later!

  1. So glad your having a good time. I remember winning a bar of Lafitte 1815, Gentlemen’s Olive Oil Soap. From Sweet Olive Soap Works, NOLA.

  2. I’m really happy to see that you are having fun and i’m glad Liz can “represent us” in a way by meeting you 😉
keep enjoying your convention ( and i don’t see how this winner couldn’t be happy or enjoy what you gave so no stress on that front)

  3. Sounds like you’re having a great time!! Wish that I was there (of course, the way my week is going, anywhere but here would be good **sigh**). Continue to have a fabulous time for me!!!
