Recipe for Writing with Jan DeLima and #Giveaway

A quick note before our regularly scheduled programming: I’m over at Bookaholic Fix today talking about “noir” heroes. Stop on by if you get a chance!

Please join me in extending a warm “welcome back” to author Jan DeLima. Jan is dropping by today as part of her virtual book tour celebrating the release of her latest book, Autumn Moon. Autumn Moon was published on September 29 by Ace and is the third book in Jan’s Celtic Wolves series.

Jan DeLima is the author of the Celtic Wolves novels, including Summer Moon and Celtic Moon. She lives in Maine with her husband and their two sons. Unlike many authors, Jan didn’t pen stories at an early age, but she has always been a dedicated reader. It wasn’t until after her children entered school that she began writing. Raised in a military family, she lived in different countries such as Thailand and Germany, but home base has always been Maine. You can learn more about Jan by visiting her website, on Facebook and by following her on Twitter.

autumn moonABOUT AUTUMN MOON: The heart of a warrior, the soul of a wolf, and the desires of a man…
For centuries, Cormack has lived between worlds—a man trapped in the body of a wolf, shunned by humans and shifters alike. Only one person has ever welcomed his company: Elen, a kindred outcast who is feared by others of her ancient Celtic race for her strange healing abilities. Cormack has always valued Elen’s kindness and understanding, but after a desperate act of friendship causes Elen to free him from his curse, he realizes he wants more. He wants all of her—completely and forever. Except before Cormack can win Elen’s heart, Pendaran, the evil leader of the Guardians, captures her, determined to manipulate her incredible power to aid him in his twisted war against the shapeshifting tribes. Now Cormack must use all of his skills as a warrior and a wolf to save the woman he loves—before Pendaran’s vile schemes destroy them all…

Thank you so much for hosting a second tour, Suzanne! It is truly appreciated!

By Jan DeLima

I often use food in the scenes of my books. It’s a nurturing element, but it also adds jan delimatexture through our senses and memories. Autumn Moon is Elen and Cormack’s story, and I wanted their first shared meal in this book to reflect a feeling of home and security—because that’s what Elen offered him during his curse. The setting of Autumn Moon is in the forest regions of New England during autumn, and pumpkin muffins immediately came to mind. Nothing conveys comfort more than spiced bread baking in a familiar kitchen as a fire crackles in the hearth.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with my books, I write the Celtic Wolves series, which begins with Celtic Moon and is followed by Summer Moon. Autumn Moon, book three, is my latest release. The stories are inspired by Celtic folklore and are a mixture of paranormal romance and urban fantasy. Each installment features a new couple’s love story, while the fantasy elements span the series. The books are written for adults and contain graphic love scenes and battle scenes—and a few shocking scenes as well. It’s those graphic scenes that may have landed my books on the urban fantasy side of things instead of paranormal romance.

Preternatura AutumnMoonArtImageI created the above art graphic for Autumn Moon. I wanted an image that shows the fairytale elements of my series, since I’ve drawn inspiration from some of the oldest documented fairytales and brought them into a modern day setting. There are dark elements in my books, but beauty as well, and plenty of romance. Plus there’s a precocious pixie that humans only see as a winter wren. Ms. Hafwen was sent to teach Elen how to control her magic and she lives in the stone cottage pictured in the background. The wolf is exactly how I envision Cormack while he’s in wolf form. Attributions for the graphic are available on my website.

Of all the emails I get from readers, Elen and Cormack is the couple I’m asked most about. They have been secondary but significant characters throughout the series, and this is the book where they finally get together. They are both outcasts for different reasons, and drawn together as friends because of it. Elen is feared for her magical abilities, and Cormack has been trapped in wolf form for centuries. They’ve lived together as friends for hundreds of years, bound by an emotional connection—but a platonic one because of their unique circumstances.

Everything changes when Elen frees Cormack from his curse. Cormack is now a man and he fully intends to protect the woman he loves. In Autumn Moon they are learning each other for the first time with hearts that are already bound. Their journey was truly magical to write.

i do hope to start this series one day as it seems really fantastic and i love the idea that food has a form of importance in teh story as well

thank you a lt for telling us more about it

    • Thank you, Miki!
I had an international gift card winner from a previous giveaway who couldn’t redeem the card, so I kept this giveaway to US/Can just to be safe. I have author friends who have created Amazon accounts from other countries and do e-gift cards. I may try that route in the future because I do want to include other countries. 🙂

      • hum as long as we use amazon dot com there should have any problem to redeem teh gift card ( only of we wanted other currencies but that’s not fair to impose that on teh author i think) at least i never had trouble
but i understand don’t worry it won’t keep me from reading your book one day
