Today, please join me in extending a warm “welcome back” to fellow author, Celia Breslin. Celia is dropping by today as part of her virtual book tour celebrating the release of her latest book, Under a Mating Moon. Under a Mating Moon was published on September 18 by Decadent Publishing and is the 27th book in Celia’s Black Hills Wolves series.
Celia lives in California with her husband, daughter, and two feisty cats. She writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance, and has a particular fondness for werewolves, vampires, and the Fae. Her award-winning vampire series – The Tranquilli Bloodline – is available from Champagne Books. Under A Mating Moon is her second werewolf story for Decadent Publishing’s multi-author, shifter line: Black Hills Wolves. When not writing, you’ll find Celia exercising, reading a good book, hanging with her family, or indulging her addiction to Joss Whedon’s TV shows and movies. You can learn more about Celia by subscribing to her newsletter, visiting her website, her blog, on Facebook and by following her on Twitter.
ABOUT UNDER A MATING MOON: British Alpha wolf Jake Marsden spends his days among humans, pursuing a lucrative music career and avoiding his pack’s politics. When his current DJ tour takes him to the US, he stops in Los Lobos to visit family, and runs into the one Wolf he never wants to see again—the mate who rejected his claim. While visiting her brother in Los Lobos, free-spirited Lexi Luparell is shocked to encounter the Wolf she’d denied when they were teens. Now she must face her guilt for the cruel way she spurned him all those years ago, make amends, and admit the truth. Jake was right all along—they’re meant to mate. Lexi would love to explore the mate concept and her overwhelming attraction to virile, alpha Wolf Jake, but he wants nothing to do with her. How can she break down his defenses when she’s the reason he built them in the first place? Jake dates only human women now. Lexi had her shot at being his mate, and she threw it away. But when her life is threatened, he may have to rethink his position and do whatever it takes to claim his one true mate.
And now, let’s hear from Celia…
Under A Mating Moon: Writing In A Shared World
By Celia Breslin
Nice to be back on the Preternatura blog to celebrate my new book release!
Under A Mating Moon is the twenty-seventh book in a multi-author series created by authors Rebecca Royce and Heather Long for Decadent Publishing. This Wolf shifter world is set in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Much of the action happens in or around the small shifter town of Los Lobos. The Tao pack owns the area—the pack itself is fractured but on the mend and rebuilding itself, after the death of its crazed and cruel Alpha.
I’m enjoying the experience of writing in a shared world. To keep the world consistent across stories, each participating author is provided with a “Bible”, an ever-growing document containing world rules, locations, and more. In my first story, Diamond Moon, I introduced two new characters (Ross and Darci) and some new homes to the Black Hills. In my second story, Under A Mating Moon, Ross’s sister Lexi comes for a visit and encounters Jake, the mate she denied as a teen. In Lexi and Jake’s story, I introduced a new home and also used two pre-existing locations: a bar and a gym.
In addition to locations, we can also have other author’s characters make cameos. For example, Rebecca Royce’s character Drew Tao, the Tao pack Alpha, appears in both my stories. This further tethers my works to the shared world.
More fun facts about the world of the Black Hills Wolves:
* Over twenty authors have contributed to this shared world.
* You’ll meet a slew of great characters, each with their own unique story.
* You can read the stories in any order–they’re all stand-alone novellas.
* A mysterious and badass Werebear named Gee (the bar owner) appears in every story.
* Shift magic: some wolves shift easily; others struggle. Some are moon dependent; others can shift at will. My wolves can shift whenever they want, and return to human form fully clothed.
* Pack law: the Alpha is the law. Anyone entering pack land must have his approval.
I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into the Tao wolf pack. Happy reading!
