Mixed-Media Wednesday

Thanks to those of you who’ve been leaving comments on some of the Jean Lafitte posts lately–I have gotten some great ideas on new foods for Jean to try and books for him to read. I see much outrage ahead!

A couple of tour stops today, with a chance to enter the tour giveaway and an extra giveaway at the first one, I think:

There’s a review and giveaway at The Caffeinated Book Reviewer site. Thanks to Kimba for the review!

Thanks also for the review at Bambi Unbridled today, where I also have a guest post on the difference between New Orleans and the setting of Pirateship Down in Terrebonne Parish, which is also basically the difference between Creole and Cajun.

With the day-job on high alert (i.e., magazine deadline), there hasn’t been much time for art or anything else this week, so here is a favorite piece from earlier in the year, in progress and final.

First layer is paper napkins or serviettes set down with matte medium in my Dylusions journal, which is about 18×12 across the spread. Then I went around the napkins with purple high-flow acrylic.

Next came the face, which I decided to leave very pale rather than introduce any strong pinks or reds into the mix. Then a brayered-on layer of gesso. Finally, some diarylide yellow and purple fluid acrylics through a floral stencil for the “hair.” And there you have it!
