A Little Holiday Read, and a Little Holiday Advice

christmas cartoon elfs legsHo ho ho! So I said I wouldn’t be back until Sunday, yet here I am. Need a free shot of DJ and Alex for the holidays? My short-short, “Santa Baby,” is over at the Romance Magicians blog today. Timewise, it’s set between River Road and Elysian Fields. You can tell because DJ’s house hasn’t burned down! Click here to read! (Yes, you might have seen it once before if you’ve been around these parts awhile.)

And…one of my numerous New Year’s Resolutions is to read more this year–books that do not include my research reading, however entertaining that might be. So…what in the world should I read? Here are the books I’m considering. Give me your recommendations from among these or something else. Choose carefully because I’ll probably end up reviewing whatever I read! (Or having Jean Lafitte do it; you never know.)

–Game of Thrones (I’ve never watched the TV series, either)

–The Bone Labyrinth (new thriller from James Rollins)

–She Can Run (first in series by Melinda Leigh I’ve been wanting to read forever)

–Deep Freeze, by Lisa Jackson (another suspense I’ve been wanting to read)

–Hot Blooded, first in Lisa Jackson’s New Orleans series

–Darynda Jones’ Charley Davidson series, book one

–Chloe Neill’s Chicago Vampire series, book one

Thoughts? Ideas?

  1. I liked the early books in the Chicago Vampire series. I haven’t read the last couple though. Unless you have time for massive books I wouldn’t start The Game of Thrones. Each book is huge. It’s also a very dark series.

  2. I agree with Darynda Jones, First Grave on the Right, and Chloe Neill’s, Some Girl’s Bite. I would add Faith Hunter’s, Skinwalker, Jane Yellowrock’s first story. I’m going to add Hot Blooded, by Lisa Jackson to my buy list. Can never get enough of NOLA. Thank Suzanne for entertaining us in 2015, look forward to new stories from you in 2016. Happy holidays to all. My you all get more books for Christmas.

  3. I only read the book by Darynda Jones, so can’t say anything about the others. I recommend the Dark Alchemy series by Laura Bickle

  4. Thanks, guys! Yes, Game of Thrones is huge, which is why I’ve avoided it so far. I have read the first Jane Yellorock and really liked it, although there were a few (admittedly.minor) NOLA things wrong that bothered me. I think I’ll read Darynda’s since she was nice enough to buy a set of my books at the Southern Magic luncheon last month.

  5. Definitely read the Charley Davidson series. I really enjoy it. If you haven’t read them, I’d also recommend Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changling and Guild Hunter series. Merry Christmas to you, too!

  6. You have got to read Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series! After the first book, you will gobble them up. Start before you get sucked into the Game of Thrones series. I also recommend Nalini Singh’s Gould Hunter and Psy-Changling series. And get caught up on the Dresden series!

  7. i would be curious to se ewhat you think of Hot blooded since i love New orleans setting
the first kate daniels by ilona andrews is fun if you haven’t read it yet ort the first mercy thompson ^^

  8. I have enjoyed books by Darynda Jones and Chloe Neill. I would also recommend A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy) by Deborah Harkness and Acheron (Dark Hunter series) by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Merry Christmas!

  9. Merry Christmas! I love the Darynda Jones series. I like Lisa Jackson but haven’t read her books in a while. I need to get caught up.
