We’re playing catchup on Readers Choice giveaways this week, with four—count them—Reader’s Choice giveaways, one each Monday through Thursday.
If you’re new around these parts, you might wonder what Reader’s Choice Monday is. Below are the new releases from this week that I thought would most interest readers of this site. I tended to cut out a lot of hard sci-fi and YA and some indies whose covers kind of went down the road to weirdtown. So, if you win a Reader’s Choice book this week and want one of these, great. BUT if you win and don’t want any of these, you can choose another book. Anything. Any format. If you do win, all I ask is that you select a book, print or digital, that costs less than US$15. Open internationally, of course, as long as you live somewhere Book Depository delivers.
Now, here’s what I considered the most interesting from among the new books releasing March March 22-27; Monday was March 1-7 releases; Tuesday was March 8-14; Wednesday, March 15-21.
If you’re an author and would like to have your book included, email me the relevant info! If one of your favorites didn’t make my cut, include it in your comments! Please note that while I occasionally include a hard sci-fi or YA book if I think it has broad appeal (translation: if it sounds interesting to me), I will include it. I also will rarely include an erotic romance title.
Here’s the March 22-27 list, which is…tiny. You know why? Next Monday, we go back to our regular Readers Choice weekly feature and that week, March 29-April 3, and the following week, April 4-10, are going to be WICKED. So get ready.
SHADOW & FLAME (Ascendant Kingdoms #4), by Gail Z. Martin. The fourth and final novel in the epic Ascendant Kingdoms Saga…Blaine McFadden and his allies have brought magic back under mortal command and begun to restore order to the beleaguered kingdom of Donderath. Now, new perils and old enemies gather for a final reckoning. Foreign invaders, a legendary dark mage and vengeful immortals fight Blaine’s battered forces for control of the continent, and Blaine’s weary army is the only thing standing between a kingdom struggling to rise from the ashes and a descent into fury and darkness. Orbit.
WORLD’S END (Pendulum #3), by Will Elliott. Vous has ascended to godhood and Eric and Aziel return to the castle to defeat the Arch Mage. The sky dragons offer Eric a throne, and objects of great power – but what do they want in return? Meanwhile, at World’s End, the new people have made contact. The haiyens say they have come to help, but is it possible they have another agenda? TOR.
CATACOMBS (The Sekhmet Bounty #2), by Liz Schulte. You know what’s worse than being blackmailed by a secret council? My family. But somehow I was roped into a mission that required me to deal with both. If it weren’t for bad luck…well you know the rest.
Shezmu, the god of ointment with a penchant for dismembering bodies, made himself known in the catacombs by chopping up fifteen innocents and putting them on display. Despite the fact that Shezmu killed my father, the council determined I was the best person to send on this “diplomatic” mission. All I had to do was convince him to go home, thwart whatever the council’s real plan was for the contradictory god, and save the world from everyone else’s personal agendas—or as I call it, just another Tuesday. Everything should have been simple enough, but it wasn’t. This mission was personal and when things get personal, lives change. But not always for the better. Indie.
THE OTHER (Daughters of Eldox #2), by Caroline Misner. Vala Hide is the Maiden of Eldox, keeper and protector of the unicorn herd. With a ragtag army of a dozen soldiers and her trusted protector, Remus, at her side, she and her three unicorns, Sagene, Audris and Gudrun are on a perilous journey to liberate the Land of Nomar from the grip of Pressor Direhund who is dangerously close to seizing power from the weak willed Prince Tito and plunging the Land of Nomar into a dark age of superstition and tyranny. In a race against time, Vala must cross the Gully of the Trolls to reach the Land of Nomar before it is too late. She knows there is another who will take his place by her side as fellow protector of the unicorns and help free the Land of Nomar from the suffocating oppression of Pressor Direhund s rule.
THE WEATHER, by Caighlan Smith. A Tor.com original. In the middle of a barren wasteland, a small town goes through the motions as if nothing’s changed. Lolly has school, a part time job, a senile grandmother that needs looking after. But everything has changed, and Lolly’s always one storm away from facing that. Digital short.
UNUSUAL SEDUCTIONS: AN ODD PARANORMAL ANTHOLOGY, by Tilly Greene, Julie Morgan, S.A. Price, Cassidy K. O’Connor, Sheri Lyn, and Christine Alvarez. An odd paranormal anthology, Unusual Seductions. None of these stories have a vampire, werewolf or shifter around, these reads are full of valkyrie, gargoyles, ghosts, hellhounds and demigods. Alert: high heat level.
So…what do you want to read? Which of these appeals to you most? Note that if you win, you can choose a different title!
