ABOUT MEGAN: Megan Morgan is an award-winning urban fantasy and paranormal romance author from Cleveland, Ohio. RWA member, bartender by day, and purveyor of things that go bump in the night, she’s trying to turn writing into her day job so she can be on the other side of the bar for a change. Hailing from the often-wintry shores of Lake Erie, she lives with an attention-seeking cat and her adult son, both of which shed too much.

Find Megan on her website, on Facebook, and on Twitter.

And now let’s hear more about The Burning City:

morgancoverABOUT THE BURNING CITY: When the smoke clears, who will be left standing?…Tattoo artist June Coffin has another, more hidden talent: she’s a Siren who can influence people with the sound of her voice. But in the wake of a murder and shake-up at the Institute of Supernatural Research, her own powers are starting to kill her. The only chance she has of saving herself—as well as her kidnapped brother and best friend—is to become a vampire. But joining the ranks of the vengeful vamp, Occam Reed, is the last thing June wants to do….Occam isn’t the only danger June needs to worry about. Power hungry telepath Robbie Beecher will stop at nothing to gain control over Chicago. He’ll destroy anyone who gets in his way—and June’s lover, Sam, is high on the hit list since his bid for Mayor. With the city and June’s heart being pulled in different directions, it’s only a matter of time before the powder keg explodes…and time isn’t something June has much of left. With a city on fire, can she rise from its ashes?

Paranormal Powers

Megan Morgan

Hello, and happy Tuesday! I hope American readers had a good Fourth of July yesterday—hopefully lots of fireworks and little sunburn!

I’m here today to tell you a little bit about my Siren Song urban fantasy series from Lyrical Press/Kensington Books—of which The Burning City, released today, is the third MeganMorganinstallment. I’m also doing a giveaway at the end of the post.

My protagonist, June Coffin, lives in a world where paranormal powers are a reality for some people and everyone, even ‘normals,’ know about them. Of course, this sparks scientific research, and the government putting their hands in that research. The biggest institute for such study is housed in Chicago, where the fight for paranormal rights and recognition is a huge social and political hot button.

June is, in the colloquial term of this universe, a Siren. She and her twin brother Jason were both born with the ability to control others with their voice. However, June has loathed this power her entire life and tries to distance herself from it, as it has isolated her and harmed her family in the past. She reluctantly travels with Jason to Chicago for study at the Institute when they offer them both a lot of money for their time. Once there, June realizes her worst fears—not just political corruption, but nefarious scientists who want to steal the powers of paranormal folks, especially rare ones like herself. In the first book, The Wicked City, she and Jason are taken hostage to be turned into guinea pigs for science. However, June manages to escape. She then must return to try to bust her brother out as well.

Thus begins the events that carry her through the rest of the series, to the fiery breaking point in The Burning City. She joins forces—both politically and personally—with two very different, but intriguing men: Micha Bellevue, a human activist who succumbs to tragic scientific experimentation at the hands of the Institute, and Sam Haain, a boisterous political leader who wants nothing more than to see the Institute crumble. Both men interest her for different reasons, but figuring out which one to ally herself with—especially on the personal front—is no easy choice.

And then of course there’s Occam, the vampire who wants her for his own, and might just get his way.

The series was always meant to be a trilogy, and can stand alone as such, but of course, the writing muse wants what it wants and I’m working on further books. If you like your urban fantasy with a little romance, suspense, and political intrigue on the side, I hope you’ll give the Siren Song series a try!

For a chance to win a $10 Amazon GC (or Book Depo equivalent), comment and let me know what paranormal power you would most enjoy having.

  1. Healing by touch and maybe telepathy. The Burning City looks interesting. I will be adding it to my TBR pile.

  2. Being the curious (and thankfully not feline) person that I am I’ll have to say Clairvoyance would be my power of choice.

  3. I’ve read the first 2 books in the Siren Song series, looking forward to the third.

I think I’d really like the ability to fly. I think it’d be fun and relaxing to just soar around in the sky!

  4. I also would like to teleport for the same reason as Galena -I’m always stressing about time so it would be wonderful to be somewhere in the blink of an eye!
