July 17-23 New Releases #Win a New #Paranormal, #UF or #Fantasy

It’s Monday, so it must be Reader’s Choice day. It’s also the final week of the ILLUMINATION release blog tour.

What’s the difference? Since I write both genres, I can tell you. I’m talking about these twins from different parents today at The Book Junkie Reads. There’s also a review scheduled to go up today at Fanatical Paranormal Romantica. Stop by if you get a chance.

First a reminder that the 99 cent Kindle sale continues for the first four Penton Legacy books and the STORM FORCE spinoff.! Also, ILLUMINATION is out, so…You can find the whole series here and Penton 3.5, STORM FORCE, here, and pick them all up for Kindle for less than $10! The Audible version should be available by late October and will be narrated by Amy McFadden, who did the other books in the series (except Redemption).

Now, here’s how Reader’s Choice works. Just let me know in the comments which of these sounds most promising to you, and you could win it—or any other book of your choice up to US$15! I will post the winner next Monday when a new giveaway begins. The winner of last week’s giveaway is SUZANNE BOYD, who won her choice of books in her choice of format. Email me at suzannej3523@gmail.com and let me know!

And now for the new releases… It’s a pretty short list this week but remember, you can pick any book you want—not just from this list. You just have to PICK one from this list you find most interesting. Note that inclusion does not constitute my endorsement of any book…unless I say so. I’m picking them based on cover and blurb…. because in many cases, I do think you can tell a lot about a book by its cover…

Age of Swords (Legends of the First Empire #2) by Michael J. Sullivan

In Age of Myth, fantasy master Michael J. Sullivan launched readers on an epic journey of magic and adventure, heroism and betrayal, love and loss. Now the thrilling saga continues as the human uprising is threatened by powerful enemies from without—and bitter rivalries within. …Raithe, the God Killer, may have started the rebellion by killing a Fhrey, but long-standing enmities dividing the Rhune make it all but impossible to unite against a common foe. And even if the clans can join forces, how will they defeat an enemy whose magical prowess makes the Fhrey indistinguishable from gods? …The answer lies across the sea in a faraway land populated by a reclusive and dour race who feels nothing but disdain for both Fhrey and mankind. With time running out, Persephone leads the gifted young seer Suri, the Fhrey sorceress Arion, and a small band of misfits in a desperate search for aid—a quest that will take them into the darkest depths of Elan. There, an ancient adversary waits—an enemy as surprising as it is deadly.

Assassin’s Price (Imager Portfolio #11) by L.E. Modesitt Jr.

Six years have passed since the failed uprising of the High Holders against Rex Lorien. The man behind the conspiracy, High Holder Ryel, has been head of the council, where the rex and Maitre Alastar can keep an eye on him. …Charyn, eldest son of Lorien, has come of age and longs to better understand how Solidar has grown and changed so that he can become an effective rex. His father keeps much to himself, justifying his silence with “you’ve plenty of time.” So Charyn decides to educate himself by learning all he can from factors, from craft masters, and from his father’s advisors — circumspectly. …When Jarolian privateers begin to disrupt Solidar’s shipping, destroying ships and driving up the cost of goods, someone attempts to kill Charyn’s younger brother. The threatening notes that follow in the wake of other acts of violence against the rex and his family demand action — build more ships or expect someone to die.

Blood Gamble (Disrupted Magic #2) by Melissa F. Olson

If there is one city that Scarlett Bernard hates, it’s Las Vegas. But when the cardinal vampire of Los Angeles convinces her to go investigate a new vampire-themed stage show, Scarlett quickly finds herself shoulder-deep in sequins, slot machines, and Old World intrigue….The show’s creators are vampire celebrities Arthur and Lucy Holmwood, who once inspired characters from the original Dracula. Now, however, they have no qualms about announcing their true status to the human world, endangering the secrecy of the Old World and Scarlett’s mission to keep it hidden. …But before she can begin untangling the Holmwoods’ motives, Scarlett also discovers that their new production has attracted more than just fans: Las Vegas’s many vampires are suddenly disappearing, and rumors are flying that actual vampire hunters may have followed Arthur and Lucy to town. …Now, without her allies, her bargest, or her frequent partner Jesse Cruz, Scarlett must navigate a new underworld of secrets and murders in a city where nothing is ever as it seems. And the stakes have never been higher.

Gather the Daughters by Jennie Melamed

Never Let Me Go meets The Giver in this haunting debut about a cult on an isolated island, where nothing is as it seems. …Years ago, just before the country was incinerated to wasteland, ten men and their families colonized an island off the coast. They built a radical society of ancestor worship, controlled breeding, and the strict rationing of knowledge and history. Only the Wanderers–chosen male descendants of the original ten–are allowed to cross to the wastelands, where they scavenge for detritus among the still-smoldering fires. …The daughters of these men are wives-in-training. At the first sign of puberty, they face their Summer of Fruition, a ritualistic season that drags them from adolescence to matrimony. They have children, who have children, and when they are no longer useful, they take their final draught and die. But in the summer, the younger children reign supreme. With the adults indoors and the pubescent in Fruition, the children live wildly–they fight over food and shelter, free of their fathers’ hands and their mothers’ despair. And it is at the end of one summer that little Caitlin Jacob sees something so horrifying, so contradictory to the laws of the island, that she must share it with the others. …Born leader Janey Solomon steps up to seek the truth. At seventeen years old, Janey is so unwilling to become a woman, she is slowly starving herself to death. Trying urgently now to unravel the mysteries of the island and what lies beyond, before her own demise, she attempts to lead an uprising of the girls that may be their undoing. …Gather The Daughters is a smoldering debut; dark and energetic, compulsively readable, Melamed’s novel announces her as an unforgettable new voice in fiction.

She could gain a love three times as strong. …When Hannah traveled to the lost colony planet of Lurra, she never expected to fall in love with Mikolaus. She soon discovers that the motel she knew as a child is host to secrets of a world she never imagined. With lives in the balance, her morals in question, and a promise yet to be fulfilled, Anna must choose between abandoning her family for good, or engaging with a darkness far greater than her own past in order to save them.  With precious little time at her disposal, Anna is caught in the middle when evil knocks at the motel door seeking answers and vengeance.

Pandemic: Level 6 (Pandemic #3) by Bobby Akart

Deadly outbreaks of diseases make headlines, but not at the start. Every pandemic begins small, subtle, and in faraway places. When it arrives, it spreads across oceans and continents, like the sweep of nightfall, killing millions, or even billions. BE PREPARED TO GET VERY, VERY PARANOID. A new post apocalyptic medical thriller fiction series from author Bobby Akart (The Blackout Series, The Boston Brahmin series and the Prepping for Tomorrow series). The events depicted in The Pandemic Series are fictional. They are, however, based upon historical fact.
