Cover Gallery–Which is your Favorite?

So, I was digging through files last night and found my “book covers” folder. They’re put together here in random order, but ROYAL STREET started it all in April 2012, followed in June 2012 by REDEMPTION. And on it goes. What will be next? The official release of a revised JACKSON SQUARE featuring our favorite pirate, perhaps? I can tell you that DOGTOWN is out of print but will be revised and re-released with a new cover in October.

So, what’s your favorite?

  1. Well, who doesn’t love a picture of a dog wearing a Santa hat & Christmas lights? Other than that one, my favorite is Black Diamond. I’m not a huge fan of photos of actual people as covers, I want to decide what the characters look like myself. And, I’m over every other cover in the bookstore having a hunk with incredible abs. Even if the actual character would never have such abs. Reminds me of the pulp sci-fi covers of the 60’s and 70’s, with women in brass bras, often having nothing to do with the contents of the book.

    • Yes, I really hate the headless-man ab covers because they’re so overdone. I remember when Penton was in the works, I told my editors that I just couldn’t have ab covers, so we went with facial close-ups. Now that’s done a lot too, but at the time Redemption came out you didn’t see it much.

  2. Always my favorite Royal Street. That is after all where it all started. Plus I have a cover flat with D.J. and brown eyes, changed to blue….a favorite piece of swag.

    • Yes, that was my first cover and I was afraid to ask them to change her eye color, but it factored into her tie to the elves (her eyes and Rand’s are identically colored), so I timidly said, “PLEASE give her blue eyes.” LOL. I’d forgotten they had printed some of the original brown-eyed covers. Talk about collector’s items!

    • Yay, another River Road fan. I also like Black Diamond’s cover–the colors all worked together really well. Unfortunately, unless I find that dog photo in cover stock and have it rebuilt, when I re-publish DOGTOWN, the cover will probably have to change. So the ebooks with that cover are also collectibles. The publisher went out of business, so I got the rights to the story back but the cover belonged to them. And so it goes. πŸ™‚

  3. I’d have to say “Chenoire.” I love a great back! But I also loved that story when I read it early on, so I may be biased.

    • You’ll like the Jackson Square cover too, then! It uses the same model as PSD.

  4. My favorite is Pirate’s Alley. I remember when you released the cover and I was trying to figure out from it, what would happen in the story. It’s so pretty and fully of colors!

  5. I like all of them, but my favorite is Royal Street. Of course Pirate Ship Down is a close second. πŸ˜‰
