Yes, a day late again…About 10 p.m. on Monday night, what was left of the eye of Hurricane Irma passed near my house as a tropical storm. We lost power—several times—but it’s back and so far it doesn’t look as if there was any wind damage. I’ll be doing a thorough walk around my house today to make sure, though. My thoughts and prayers go out to those in Florida as well as those in Texas and west Louisiana still dealing with Hurricane Harvey’s handiwork. Rebuilding is a slow, frustrating process.
So even though it’s Tuesday, we’ll have our Reader’s Choice giveaway, albeit with a slight change given my status among the unemployed, er, I mean, full-time-authors-who-don’t-make-a-living-wage-from-their-writing. There will now be one giveaway per month, still open internationally, and each person can enter once per week. So you have a bigger chance of winning, but in only one giveaway at the end of each month.
Here’s how Reader’s Choice works. Each week, let me know in the comments which of these sounds most promising to you, and you could win it—or any other book of your choice up to US$20! I will post the winner on the last day of each month. As is almost always true, this is open to international entries.
Before we get to new releases, my Susannah Sandlin alter-ego is a sponsor in this month’s mega-giveaway from Night Owl Reviews, called “Cupcakes and Books Scavenger Hunt.” It’s a scavenger hunt with 34 authors, 128 winners and $850 in prizes! You can learn all about it here, and start playing!
And now for the new releases… The drought of the summer is over, and the onslaught of fall releases has begun. In the meantime, see what you think of these and let me know which one most floats your boat!
Untethered (Shifter Night #1) by Charlene Hartnady
Saturday night is shifter night…
It’s that one night of the week when the shifters head into town to blow off a little steam. Sometimes, when they’re lucky enough, it’s to find a mate … a sweet, human mate … since shifter females are in such short supply. …Winston wishes it was his turn to find a partner because he’s done with all the screwing around. Done with all the meaningless one-night-stands. He might head into town when it’s his turn, but he’s staying far away from temptation. He’ll wait until his name comes up on the mating list and then he’ll settle down….His good intentions are blown to hell when he meets Ana, a timid female struggling with an event from her past. Who is this beautiful creature? This broken, sad shadow of herself. Winston promises to help her. Hell, they’ll help each other. He might have vowed celibacy but he’s not dead. Not by a long damn shot. This way, he can spend time with a beautiful female without any expectations and in return, he’ll help her get over her fears….Problem is though, friends should not be this attracted to one another. They definitely shouldn’t be this intrigued by each other. Keeping his hands off of Ana is becoming an impossibility. Will he be able to let her go when the time comes? Thing is, he’s not so sure anymore.

But the marshal of Sagebrush is everywhere–he controls everything–and for years Jo has had to stomach the false pleasantries and knowing glint in the eyes of the man who killed her mother….When Jo discovers how deep the marshal’s seedy dealings run she decides that fear will no longer keep her silent. But just when Jo plans to expose him for what he really is, the marshal plays a card of his own—his notoriously scandalous son, Clayton.
