Free-for-All Friday: This and That (& a Fr*e Book of Choice!)

I’m on a seriously seriously serious deadline through Monday, so I’m keeping it simple today. I want you to go to the Flickr page of fantasy author Jim C. Hines. (When you click on the first one, it will let you go through a slide show so you don’t have to go back and forth.)
I want you to have a big laugh. I want you to come back here and tell me which of his photo gallery you like best. And then I will let pick out a person to win a book of their choice. Yep, any book. Yep, international.
A little backstory. I wish I could tell you all the background, but suffice it to say that for a while now, Jim delightfully agreed to periodically try to emulate the ridiculous poses women and men (but mostly women) are put into for a lot of sci fi, fantasy, urban fantasy, and paranormal covers. Eventually, he turned the project into a fundraiser that ended with himself and several titans of SF/F posing for a group shot. It is hilarious.
So…what are you waiting for? Get ready to GUFFAW, I tell you! (And my fave? The Lois McMaster Bujold cover.)
Now, we could have a serious discussion about sexist book covers, but that’s a topic for a Shop Talk day.
Have fun out there this Friday!

  1. Hilarious is right. Watch Your Hand Bear – LOL. That’s great, needed a laugh after shoveling snow!!! 3 to 4 inches here in Chicagoland.

  2. I loved ‘Man Pose’ this was such a good Friday laugh. I had so much fun looking through all of them- his commentary is just as good as the posing. LOL

    • Ha! Night Myst was brilliant. I wonder what Yasmine Galenorn (or any of the authors) thought of them. I’d love to see him spoof DJ on my covers, although she’s not doing much contorting.

  3. Jim’s blog is pretty darn funny – I highly recommend people follow it so they can see these pictures on a regular basis! I think the Cherry Adair – Pssst! Dude, Pull up Your Pants is one of my favorites, although I love the boinking the bear’s head one as well.

  4. I always have a great time when looking at cover poses modeled by Jim, and this time was the same, my favourite was his version of Gini Koch’s Alien Diplomacy 😀

    Thank you!

  5. I loved Jim’s poses!!! I think my fav is the Gini Koch cover and the Killer toaster 🙂

Bleh… we just had about a foot of snow here… just finished digging out.

  6. I have been there often, I do love those cover poses. I love the Gini Koch cover a lot, and the Yasmine Galenorn book (perhaps because I have those), and the classic Fabio one with the teddy bear 🙂

    • Also the one where he and the teddy bear do two poses, one where he plays the man and the other where he plays the woman. Some of those old classic romance covers were so awful!

  7. What a great way for me to start the day 🙂 I loved all the poses and the captions that went along with them. I loved The Bear of My Dreams and the Gini Koch pose lol

  8. Bear of my Dreams has got to be the best. Thought I’d pee my pants with the “Best selling author of 50 shades of Winnie the Pooh”.

  9. I’ve seen some of these before but seeing them all in one place is great. I’ve got to go with A Brush of Darkness – Jim in the fishnet stockings is just classic.

  10. On a day my colitis is kicking my butt, this gave me a much needed laugh! Bear Of My Dreams has to be my favorite; He was a bear of very little brains. Oh, my!

  11. I love Mary’s Angels because he recruited other authors as well. But Jeannine Frost’s cover, the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences and Fifty Shades of Pooh all made me burst out laughing! I like his titles too, especially Cherry Adair’s cover.

  12. OMG that was just hilarious! The captions! The creative use of The Bear!!! I couldn’t stop laughing! I think I like The witch thief best. That was one great smolder at that poor bear.

  13. that was really funny ^^ i can’t decide which was best, they were all so hilarious. but the Bear Paw was kinda epic XD

  14. It’s so hard to choose, they’re all so great. I especially like all the poses with the sexy bear. 😀
I think I’ll go with the last one, Young Flandry/Mary’s Angels because of the group shoot, it’s hilarious.
