Needless Indulgences with Rhenna Morgan and Giveaway

Today, please join me in welcoming author Rhenna Morgan to Preternatura. Rhenna is dropping by today as part of her virtual book tour celebrating the release of her latest book, Unexpected Eden. Unexpected Eden was published on December 29th by Kensington/Lyrical Press and is the first book in Rhenna’s Eden series.

Rhenna never thought a weird dream, a bucket list, and an addiction to romance novels would lead her into publishing, but that’s exactly how Unexpected Eden came to life. Okay, there might have been a jillion revisions in there somewhere, and a few points where her family thought she’d lost her ever-lovin’ mind, but pretty much everyone’s accepted that this author thing is chronic. When she’s not working on the rest of the Eden books or her naughty contemporary romances, you’ll find her chasing two precious little girls, batting eyelashes at her indulgent husband, or driving with the top down and the music up loud. Oh, and “researching” on the internet. Those half-naked men she uses for inspiration don’t download themselves. She’d love to share her “research” with you too and get to know you a little better in the process. Find her blog, Facebook, Pinterest, and other social media links at her website. Be sure to sign up for her newsletter there too for snippets, upcoming releases, and author news. If you enjoyed Unexpected Eden, Eryx and Lexi would sure appreciate it if you shared your review at Goodreads, Amazon, or other favorite online bookstore. Lexi would make you a mean cyber-cocktail in exchange if she didn’t have her hands full with Eryx, but rumor has it they haven’t left the royal suite in days.

unexpecte_eden_coverABOUT UNEXPECTED EDEN: Most people believe Eden no longer exists. Lexi Merrill’s about to learn they’re wrong. A hard-working bartender with a self-sufficient backbone and a wary nature, she knows pickup lines like a second language. So, when Eryx Shantos barges into her world with too-smooth words and a body to back it up, she locks up her libido and vows to keep her distance. Eryx has other ideas. As king of the Myren race, Eryx is duty-bound to enforce the laws preventing exposure of their existence to humans. Yet The Fates have led him through his dreams to Lexi, a temptation he doesn’t want to resist. The question–is she Myren, or human, which makes her forbidden fruit? When Eryx’s nemesis tags Lexi as his next target, Eryx insists on taking her home where he can keep her safe. Lexi had no idea “home” would mean the one-and-only land of creation…or that she’d trigger a prophecy that could doom her newfound race.

Top Three Things I Don’t Need But Buy Anyway
By Rhenna Morgan

It’s a fresh New Year! My debut fantasy romance, Unexpected Eden, is officially for sale, books two and three, Healing Eden and Waking Eden, are done and in the editing pipeline, and there’s only the final book in The Eden Series left to knock out.

I’m in a primo spot to start working up those resolutions, right? Start pruning and cleaning out the clutter of my lifermorgan before I dig into Eden’s Deliverance and maybe dive into a new series altogether?

Um, maybe not.

Looking back on 2014 and all my quirks, I’ve decided I kind of like things the way they are. At least for now. Particularly those odd little habits that make my husband and kids giggle at me when I get carried away. Things like buying (mostly) small ticket items I have absolutely no need for.

So, rather than nip my eccentricities in the bud, I thought I’d revel in them a little bit with a Top Three List, and see if maybe any of you have particular fancies you can’t pass up as well. There’s strength in numbers after all.

Needless Indulgence #3
Gadget Cases – It’s bad enough how gadget heavy my family is (my husband and I in particular), but I have to go and make the whole thing worse with cases. I buy covers for my phone, mini, MacBook Air, and iPad the same way some women buy shoes. Yes, I have all of those toys—plus an iMac. I’d probably get a “cover” for it too if they made them. And if they do make them, please don’t tell me. I’ve got three for my new iPhone and two for my Air I haven’t even used yet.

Needless Indulgence #2
Readers – I hate losing my eyesight. For years I had 20/20 vision, so hitting my mid-forties and having to squint at smaller text really rocked my world.

And then I discovered readers.

Yeah, they’re a pain to carry around and I’ve lost more than my fair share of them, but oh, what fun to buy new styles! (Yes, I admit it. I’m totally lame.)

Again, I think this is a cousin addiction to what some women have for shoes. I see the cute, colorful pairs with the matching cases and I just can’t help myself. Best place to shop for them? Bookstores! Yep, hands down they’ve got the coolest frames.

Needless Indulgence #1
Romance Books – Surely you saw that coming.

I was a devout romance reader long before I ever tried my hand at writing. To put it bluntly—reading is my drug of choice. And, man, does my TBR list show it. I love everything about the process—discovering new authors who delight me, gobbling up new books from authors I already know and love, escaping the day-to-day routine of reality to fall in love over and over again, and the satisfying sigh that comes at the end of each journey.

What about you? Do you have any needless indulgences you care to share? Items you don’t need at all, but will buy anyway for the sheer joy of it? Share below if you do. I promise I won’t roll my eyes or giggle like my family does with me.

If fantasy romance is your thing, I hope you’ll pick up a copy of Unexpected Eden and join Eryx and Lexi in their adventures in the one and only land of creation. I know they’ll enjoy having you along for the ride.

See you in paradise!

  1. Needless indulgence? Well, books first of all, but I don’t think of them as needless. To me, books and reading are as vital as eating or breathing. I just gotta read!

  2. Books will always be my first love. Can’t have too many of them! I like the cool tech accessories too!

  3. other than books? which I’ve weaned off of physical books to kindle books, which are much easier to hide 🙂 I’d have to say that I really don’t have any. I’m frugal and cheap, so I try and not to spend money unless I have too! (and books don’t count!) Congrats to Rhenna on her debut! It sounds fantastic!

  4. needless indulgence..let see books are not needless but it’s something i can’t resist!.. in 2014 i guess a needless indulgence was yarn…. i mean i’m only learning knitting but i have a lot of idea for gifts so i’m stocking teh material^^;;
notebook!! oki that’s the longest indulgence i haven’t managed to resist since little^^;; i love them ( and letter paper! yes let’s remember letter paper when i can find some which it’s becoming more difficult nowadays)

  5. Oh definitely more books. I have hundreds of books at home already that I haven’t read but I still always seem to have to buy more. 🙂 Oh and little figurines of different things. I have tons of owls, wolves, gargoyles, dragons, and fairies and I always buy more when I find cute ones.

  6. Books and cotton fabrics for quilting are my two needless indulgences. I can’t resist either one. My husband jokes that I have enough to open my own bookstore and fabric store.

  7. Books, books, and more books, including the Kindle. There are e-version stories not in hard copy, shorts, missing chapters, etc. that was the original reason my kids bought me the Kindle. Then there is the addition of all the .99 cent specials. Now I’m planning on building another bookcase for the den to organize the hard copies. Wonderful hobby, the indulgence is trying to be a completest and having to own complete series from favorite authors. It’s never ending. Think that’s a good thing.

  8. Mine would be books and video games. I’m addicted to both which drives the hubby crazy, lol.

  9. Oh yes, I buy things I don’t need all the time. A pretty vase, picture frames, a cute container, and of course, books, books and more books.

  10. Books are definitely my #1 needless indulgence. I admit that I have a problem, but will never change! 🙂

We recently moved from a 3 bedroom house to a one bedroom apartment, which has forced me to really consider the things that I buy. It’s actually been a really good thing.
